Time-out Worksheet
Developing a Time-Out Plan
During this week, think about how you can develop a plan with members of your family, to avoid aggressive situations. One very effective strategy for coping and managing anger is the TIME-OUT. Just like in sports, time-outs can be an effective way of stopping the action when it is not going well and regrouping. Stop what you are doing, leave the situation to cool off, and then come back and deal with the situation when you are calm. This is an important way to avoid aggressive behavior. Think about and answer the following questions as you develop your plan.
When should you call a time-out?
Who can call a time-out?
Me
My Partner
My Kids
How will you know when a time-out has been called? Is there a signal?
Where will you go during a time-out? What about other family members?
How long will the time-out last?
How will people know the time-out is over?
